Moonrise, High as a Kite.
At the end of my evening walk, I watched a kite impossibly high in the sky, riding the April winds. At the end of the kite’s very long string, was a teenage girl with braces, coached by her parents as she rotated the spool to bring the kite down before dusk, inch by inch.
Approaching the kite-flying family across the grass, exchanging smiles and taking pictures with my iPhone, I noticed the moon had risen. A moment later, as the moon ascended and the kite descended, their paths crossed, the two appearing on the same plane despite the 238,900 miles between them. They danced — along with a passing seagull — in distant juxtaposition as the sky darkened into dusk…
