Fern Gully.
Did you ever see (or hear of) the animated children’s movie, “Fern Gully: the Last Rainforest” back in the 90’s? As you can guess from the title, it tried to send a not-too-subtle (prescient?) environmental warning without being preachy. It cost $24 million and only took in $32 million at the box office, but — as with so many kids movies in the 90’s — it did VERY well in the post-theater VHS tape sales! My son loved Fern Gully for a while back then; I think he had his first crush on the faery girl in the leading role of this animated, magical rom-com for kids.
Today IRL (In Real Life), I found myself in fern gully, except it wasn’t a movie or a gully and didn’t have faeries or magic. It was in lovely, dark, and deep woods, by the side of a fast-flowing stream full of spring rain. There on the banks of the stream, I admired the lush, thick growth of ferns and other woodland plants which love the cool, damp air and ground under the canopy of trees…
