#tbt / Puerto Rican Pride.
Back on March 2, 2022, I met these two guys who identified themselves — verbally and by their flag — as proud Puerto Rican Americans. They were the most vocal (and inebriated?) of a group of 9-10 men and 2-3 women gathered in front of the Carousel at Coney Island. These two gentlemen stood with their flag apart from the others, in the middle of the boardwalk, as if trolling for passersby, inviting conversation. Of course, I took the bait…

I asked why they were there with the flag — was it a special occasion or reason? They said no, they gather there all the time, and they like to share their Puerto Rican and American pride! I had an Instax-mini (FujiFilm) instant film camera with me, which I’d been using to capture the pre-season amusement park and boardwalk scenes, so I offered to do a “one for you, one for me” instant portrait of them — they happily agreed! One came out great, the other not so good, and of course they wanted the great one. So I grabbed a quick iPhone portrait which I knew would come out way better…

Finally, highly amused by the whole instant photo process, the man in red pants — self-appointed spokesperson for the group — let me know if I took pictures on the boardwalk regularly, I would make LOTS of money! He would promote me and take a cut… LOL
See you tomorrow…
