Activities

(non-photography)

A few things I enjoy besides family, work, and my creative outlets like this blog, are worthy causes, and other activities to keep my brain and hands busy, my heart full, and my soul satisfied. These activities are what I imagine and undertake continually to distract myself, while trying to help make the world a better place, with varying degrees of skill, purpose, attention, commitment, and completion.

My Activities Include:

Micro-poetry (haiku and senryu) at haikumages, where I’ve posted more than 550 short poems and photographs, over 11+ years (since 2011). I’m down to writing haiku just once-per-quarter these days, but I find that I end up writing photo post captions that are essentially short poems!

A podcast called AudioConvo launched in 2022, which combines my lifelong loves of people, radio, listening, and talking. It’s taking a lot of my time, but it’s huge fun, and deeply satisfying. AudioConvo focuses on topics and issues that are core to my life and work: fashion, food, art, music, creativity, technology, business, and the future. My podcast schtick (ya gotta have one) is: “I don’t know a lot, but I know a lot of people who do!” I’ll have ongoing, provocative, revealing (and fun) conversations with interesting people on relevant topics.

I am a co-founder and member of the Walkabout Alumni Association (a.k.a. “WAA”) which provides resources, forums, networking, gatherings, events, community and support services for graduates of all — past, present, and future — Walkabout programs and schools.

This is on my work page but it’s also a pet, personal project of mine which I’ve taken way beyond work: Cameras+Films, a blog and online store, sourcing and selling new and vintage cameras, films, photo accessories, add-ons, extras, and ephemera. I post often about life, creativity, and the photographer’s journey. Email russ@camerasandfilms.com for info.

I also post personal commentary, non-photography-related observations, musings, wisecracks, puns, and rants to a separate blog at: russellemurray.com — check it out!
