Lovely Post Office & Wires.
This is about the charming U.S. Post Office in New Canaan, the view of which (from Joe’s Pizza across the street) is marred by thick, crisscrossing wires. Seems like a waste and a shame, unless you’re into power lines, telephone poles and wires.
Every time I grab a slice at Joe’s on a sunny day, I admire the post office for its architectural design and symmetrical perfection, then lapse into wondering why the devil wires aren’t all below ground instead of being suspended between poles! I mean, there are serious, bulky bundles of wires obscuring (ruining?) the beauty of this particular post office, which annoys me every time I eat at Joe’s.
Today, grabbing a slice, I wondered — do all those wires create a scenario that is visually interesting BECAUSE of the wires, which I had been unable or refused to see? Suddenly I saw the wires not as an obstacle but as a part of a unique composition worthy of a photograph! I thought a monochrome version would highlight the lines and shapes best…
