Autumn Maple Leaves

As each autumn arrives and wanders toward winter, there are a few weeks when the Japanese maple trees reveal their ultimate beauty. Of course, they are lovely from the moment buds open in early spring, but these maples hold back their most brilliant, breathtaking colors until the last weeks of autumn, and go out in a blaze of glory!

You could say that Japanese maples “leave” us wanting more…

And, of course, the colors of Japanese maple leaves in late autumn are most glorious when backlit by the early morning and late afternoon autumn sun!

Today’s photo: afternoon sun filtering through the red-orange leaves of a small maple tree which has grown up around our roadside mailbox.
