Gray Clouds, Late Afternoon

Afternoon is a favorite time of day for me, as the sun sinks toward the horizon. I take lots of photographs in late afternoon and especially appreciate the warm glow of the “golden hour” before sunset.

And when an afternoon storm passes over, sometimes we get the drama of gray clouds like a dark canvas on which the sinking sun paints warm tones. This was one of those afternoons.

Warm tones on the western side of a Japanese maple.
