Bumble Bee on Zinnia

Bumbling for Pollen.

As August winds down, the pollinators’ hunt for late season pollen sources escalates to a feverish, frenetic, frantic urgency! Each bumblebee’s usual hungry pace doubles, as it fills the collection sacs on its hind legs to the point of bursting.

Did you know that bumblebees drink nectar for fuel and energy, but pollen is their source of protein? Found that out recently…

Here are some shots I took of a busy bee — pollen sacs full — seducing and exploring (violating?) a pink flower (zinnia?) planted between vegetables in our garden…
